You can wish upon them and reach for them, that is all good and well. But if I can teach you anything it is this: You are made of star stuff and you shine as bright as Sirius amongst the dark night sky.
You are a star here on Earth and we need your radiance, so shine bright little star. I taught you how to build a fire. Now remember to keep stoking the ruby red flame inside of you. You will need to feed it often with love, kindness, and forgiveness.
Some will see your light and run and hide, show them compassion. Others will try to dim your light, because they see in you what they lack. You can love them but you must leave them. Promise me you will not shade your light for anyone. And there are those that will see your brilliance for what it is and will turn their lamps up to meet yours. These are your people. Join with them to bring love light to the world. And when you find yourself alone, remember you have everything you need within to keep your light shining.
You asked me if we turn into stars when we go to heaven. As for me little star, I believe that heaven is found here on Earth. Stay connected, know yourself, speak your truth, live your values, stand up for what you believe in, go after your dreams, and keep your heart open to love every experience and you will be well on your way. When you lose the path, and you will get knocked off course, seek out Polaris to find your true north. I will never forget watching you sing twinkle, twinkle in front of a crowd when you were three. If there is one thing you can do for me, it is to keep shining that bright light for all to see well after i'm gone.

Words inspired by a weekend out under the stars. This was the first time I’ve brought my daughter along on an astrophotography shoot. Her curiosity and childlike wonder inspires me everyday.
